Security is among the top priorities for any business that is set to protect its properties in the process of reducing losses & liabilities and maximizing profits.

One of the ways you can beef up security for your business is having video surveillance installed in your premises. The good news is, the CCTV cameras in the market today are smart, reliable and efficient. The systems come equipped with functions and features like those in a computer such as motion detectors and electronic alerts. Some are so good, you are instinctively able to get in touch with police and other law enforcers when and where necessary.

The CCTV systems are available at very fair prices such that even the small enterprises can afford to install the surveillance cameras that are capable of controlling the filming and storing of images captured.

The installation cost for the CCTV system in your business premises is high in the short term. However, this being a one off cost, the long term benefits outweigh this downside by far. It also gives you peace of mind on matters security and enables you to focus more on your core business.

Most of the available surveillance systems can be customized to suit your specific business security needs and priorities. The tailor made options include a camera for the entrance of your premises only, or cameras that cover various spots within your premises.

One of the major advantages of the CCTV surveillance system is to act as a deterrent for possible break ins, and in any unfortunate situation where there is attempted or actual break-in, then the police are able to recognize the people involved in this criminal activities, pursue them and bring them in for justice. Another benefit that comes with installing this cameras is to monitor your employees productivity, attendance etc., thereby improving their accountability and output levels. In some cases, it can minimize the amount you are paying your insurance premiums.

The two types of camera options to install in your business are the analogue cameras and the IP(Internet Portal).

  • The analogue option is limited in features and may reduce the efficiency of its purpose. It remains a cheaper option in the market.
  • The IP is more advanced in terms of the features and capabilities. The IP involves independent cameras that may be a little costly as single units. A complete IP system has a high initial installation cost, but since the distinct cameras used in the set up cover a wider section, you could end up using fewer cameras thereby reducing the overall cost of installation. If this is the case for your premises, then you spend much less for a better and more efficient surveillance system, IP, compared to the cheaper analogue option.

There is a central recording unit in each system where all individual cameras are linked for filming , storage and retrieval. Digital Video Recording (DVR) is the method currently used with the surveillance video systems, which is a progressive development from the Video Cassette Recorder (VCR). Advanced technical developments are underway to graduate the DVR to Network Video Recording (NVR)
